The historic MGP Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, traces its roots to 1847, when George Ross founded Rossville Distillery. With a legacy spanning more than 175 years, the distillery has played a longstanding role in American whiskey-making and is closely tied to the region’s rich distilling history.
The distillery draws on an underground aquifer that produces limestone-filtered water, which contributes to its whiskey’s distinctive character. During Prohibition, Cincinnati-based George Remus built a whiskey empire that extended throughout the region, including the Rossville Distillery property, where he maintained warehousing grounds.
Seagram acquired Rossville Distillery in 1933. Following several subsequent ownership changes, MGP acquired the operation in 2011. Today, the return of the MGP Distillery name marks a new chapter for the Lawrenceburg operation, connecting its historic roots with its continued role in producing distinctive American whiskey.
The distillery produces a portfolio of proprietary brands, including George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Remus Repeal Reserve, Rossville Union Rye Whiskey, Eight & Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey and Tanner’s Creek.
